Gyeongju remains a living repository of Korean history and tradition.
As of 2025, the city has a population of approximately 240,000 and covers a total area of 1,324.39 km©÷. Located in the southeastern inland area of the Korean Peninsula, Gyeongju is a historic city that once served as the political, cultural, and Buddhist center of Korea. It is home to UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites such as Bulguksa Temple, Seokguram Grotto, and the Gyeongju Historic Areas.
Gyeongju has hosted various international events, including the ASEM Culture Ministers' Meeting, UNWTO General Assembly, OECD World Forum, and the Asia-Pacific Regional Conference of the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC).

The city is also renowned for its cultural festivals, such as the Silla Cultural Festival, Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Festival, and the Gyeongju International Music Festival.
In addition to being a cultural hub, Gyeongju is also a major tourist destination, offering rich cultural resources such as coastal scenic routes along the East Sea and various historical museums.
